2000 DRACAR Season
3 Series Split
The 2000 DRACAR season saw the instantiation of 2 new series: DRACAR Digital and DRACAR R/C. The Combat Series was cancelled after race 6 since the remaining 4 races could not be completed by Daytona 2001, leaving Dean Gibson of the #10 Tide on top of the points. DRACAR R/C ran twelve points events and saw a close battle for first between Dean Gibson and James Guintu. Guintu, of the #3 Goodwrench, persevered to clinch the title in race #11 at Freedom Park. Finally, the DRACAR Digital series was truncated to 5 races, the point spread only 21 between Dean Gibson and James Craig going into the final race. James Craig netted 30 points after dominating the finale at Watkins Glen leading pole to checker flag and taking the 2000 DRACAR Digital championship. 1999 DRACAR Season
Randy Shew is "The Gibson"
Randy Shew took home the Gibson Cup 500 in a last second spin out at ORCCONN 2000 becoming the Inaugural Gibson Cup Series Champion. His early domination of the series in its first four races, including the points-rich Florida State Police Challenge gave him a substantial lead in the points race. Even missing 3 of the 10 races was not enough races for the runner up Chris Vanover in the #2 Miller Lite to overcome him. The series boiled down to a shootout at the Gibson Cup 500, the series' final race of the 2049 season, between Shew and Vanover, resulting in Shew's 2 point margin of victory as the race was concluded.
